The world of dance is exciting, daring, thought provoking, ever changing and dynamic. Choreographers dig and dig…and sometimes…they find something miraculous within the landscape of movement.
Zodiaque proudly presents the work of nine extraordinary dance makers with profound artistic voices: UB faculty members Melanie Aceto, Karen Georger, and Tressa Gorman Crehan; UB alumni Joe Celej (2001) a performing member with Elisa Monte Dance, Leanne Rinelli (2001), faculty at Buffalo State College, and Jon Lehrer (1993), Artistic Director of LehrerDance; invited guest artist Keith Thompson, international dancer and choreographer on faculty at Rutgers-Mason Gross School of the Arts; and we are proud to feature the creative collaboration of Zodiaque members Elijah Coleman and Lawanda Hopkins.
Zodiaque Dance Company is delighted to close another exceptional season featuring a platform for contemporary creations.
FEN
Black Box Theatre
Wednesday, February 29 To Sunday, March 4
$20, Students & Seniors $10
Wednesday - Saturday at 7:30pm
Sunday at 2:00pm
FEN tells the story of a rural area in England and its people who for centuries have been separated from the modern world of wealth, political power and the daily fruits of a modern, materialistic society. At the center of the play is a love story of a wife and mother who attempts to find hope, and escape from her social-fate as a common laborer, in a relationship with a man equally constricted by his life in the Fenland. FEN includes the ridiculous and comic as well and the rapid shifts in tone and mood make it a highly theatrical work.
Caryl Churchill, author of
FEN, is an internationally known playwright whose work has been given major international theatrical awards throughout the world. Churchill is a master of style, and handles her themes in wildly different ways, veering from farce to highly charged poetic and impressionistic drama. She is critically regarded as one of the pre-eminent modern playwrights of England and recipient of the Obie Sustained Achievement Award.
This performance of
FEN is produced by the UB Theatre & Dance Department and is directed by Jerry Finnegan. Tom Ralabate is the Producing Artistic Director. The cast is comprised of B.F.A. and B.A. students at UB.
