Kyla Kegler is a choreographer, painter, and conceptual artist who makes work to combat apathy by highlighting feeling. Kegler has exhibited and performed extensively in Berlin (Uferstudios, Sophiensaele, Zuhause, Klappkatze, Kule Theater), Buffalo (Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, Big Orbit Gallery, Box Gallery, Burchfield Penny Art Center, Canisius College, Artpark) and New York City (Ann Liv Young's Bedroom, Kunstraum, Flux Factory). She holds an MFA in studio art on full fellowship from the University at Buffalo and an MA in solo/dance/authorship from the Art University of Berlin. In 2004, she began her BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago on full scholarship and completed it at The Art Academy of Weissensee in Berlin Germany in 2010 via Daemen College. Kegler lived in Berlin between 2009-2016 where she co-founded Zuhause theater club in 2010. Kegler received two New York State Council on the Arts grants for community theater in Buffalo in 2013. In 2019, she received both grants again, as well as the Global Warming Art Grant (Buffalo). Her newest performance Under The Weighted Blanket will premiere at Performance Mix Festival, New Dance Alliance, New York, N.Y. in June 2020. Kegler’s work is highly social and is an expression of her impulse to connect.
