  • Performer: Arya Jayant Gijare, MS Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Description: Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form from India that beautifully combines rhythm, expression, and storytelling. Through intricate footwork, expressive gestures, and facial expressions, Bharatanatyam brings stories and emotions to life on stage. My presentation is based on Shurpankha, a powerful and emotional character from the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana. She is the sister of the demon-king Ravana. Bold and fearless, she expresses her love openly to Lord Rama, but when rejected, her emotions turn into anger and hurt. This moment becomes the turning point that sets the entire story into motion. This choreography is created by my gurus, Meeta Pathak and Sandhya Dharma. The music composition is by Sandhya Dharma, with Mridangam by Shri Vyankatesh and flute by Rohit.

6:15 p.m. - BREAK

  • Description: Rêve Exalté from Sonate en 4 Rêves by Matthias Duplessy is a contemporary movement that blends classical writing with influences from Latin American and Flamenco traditions. It features contrasting lyrical and rhythmic sections, with an emphasis on color, texture, and expressive phrasing.

6:40 p.m. - Shiv Tandav Stotram - A Classical Dance Performance, Vaishali Maheshkar

  • Performer: Vaishali Maheshkar, PhD Computer Science and Engineering
  • Description: The Shiv Tandav Stotram is a powerful Sanskrit hymn that celebrates the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva, symbolizing the eternal cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction. Traditionally attributed to the devotee Ravana, the verses vividly describe Shiva’s dynamic energy, divine grace, and the rhythmic force that governs the universe. Through classical Indian dance, this performance brings the hymn to life with expressive movements, intricate rhythms, and dramatic storytelling. The choreography portrays the intensity and beauty of Shiva’s Tandava—a dance that embodies both divine power and spiritual transcendence. This piece is an offering of devotion, rhythm, and tradition, inviting the audience to experience the timeless energy of Shiva’s cosmic dance."
