“2191,” a new play presented in its debut production, follows Fleur, a lone traveler searching for her missing brother, guided by three interconnected AI systems. As she encounters increasingly threatening anti-AI sentiment, Fleur's reliance on generative technologies becomes dangerous. Crossing the harsh landscape towards the last viable water sources—the Great Lakes—Fleur must grapple with the uneasy truth that the very technology keeping her alive also helped destroy her world.
Content Advisory: “2191” contains depictions of violence, murder, and societal collapse. The production contains strong language and themes of mental health distress, loss, and survival.
WARNING: This production contains haze, as well as moving, strobing, and flashing lights.
The UB Theatre and Dance 2026-2027 season is sponsored in part by Fox Run at Orchard Park, celebrating its seventh year in support of the department.
